Idexx Cardiopet pro-bnp blood test results.
- Good evening group, or good morning wherever you all may be in the world!
I was wondering if any of you have any experiences with, or views on the idexx cardiopet pro-bnp blood test.
My cat was dx with moderate HCM after having an echocardiogram in May 2012.
The vet then recomended that my boy have the cardiopet pro-bnp blood test as he said it measured atrial stretch and stress and could be used as a marker and be monitored each 6 months with cardiograms once per year.
My boy had the blood test in June 2012 and his result was quite highly elevated at 535.
He has had the test repeated this week (7 months later) and his bnp blood result is thankfully much lower at 135.
The vet said that he does still have HCM (for a moment i was so excited thinking perhaps he'd been wrongly diagnosed at the cardiogram last May! :-( ) but that perhaps it is more mild-moderate than moderate.
The vet said that his bnp blood level could have been so elevated in June 2012 due to being very stressed.
So the vet said the cardiogram will not be needed until May 2013 as planned.
Has anyone else's cat had this cardiopet bnp blood test on more than one occasion and had such vastly different results?
My poor little boy! He's also now waiting for an appointment with an ear nose and throat specialist as his noisy breathing that started in December 2011 was treated with steroids throughout last spring and did not respond or improve one little bit.
I would never ever let him near steroids again. He also had every scan/test/swab/endoscopy going last summer and the cause of his wheezy noises remain unknown.
Here is the indication of results table for the cardiopet nt pro-bnp blood test:
It would be a great help to hear from any of you that have experience of this blood test.
Thank you group for all your support and knowledge! <3 x
