Re: [FH] Hypericum
- Hypericum (St. John's Wort) hehrb is typically used for anxiety. Homeopathic hypericum is often used for nerve pain.
If you're using homeopathic preparation of Hypericum (St. John's Wort), the dosage depends on the potency of the homeopathic remedy. You really need to consult with a veterinary homeopath to figure that out. Homeopathic remedies aren't given like other meds or supplements, just to treat a symptom. A homeopath needs to do what is called a repertory, which is a detailed history of the animal, their physical and emotional makeup, and then a homeopathic remedy can be prescribed to address whatever may be out of sorts with the animal. Homeopathic remedies are generally very safe to use on pets.
If you're thinking about giving the actual herb, St. John's Wort, you should talk to a vet or pet herbalist who is familiar with dosing it. Herbs can be toxic in certain doses, so you need to really research this and know which you can and can't give to a cat. Here is some info on St. John's Wort for pets.
