Re: [FH] Well, with the assisted feeding, at 25mls of food, he looked better than when I
- What were your vets thoughts on this? I know you talked to a vet tech. yesterday. Try to reach the vet today, if you haven't yet.
Since he was happy to eat with your help, I'm guessing he still has residual pain in his mouth. Keep assist feeding until he gets his strength back. I would not be surprised if he does not poop for a few days. That often happens after surgery. You could add a tiny bit of canned pumpkin...unsweetened...into the food you are syringing. That will help get him regular. Or you could try a syrup of Slippery Elm Bark powder mixed with enough water to make a liquidy syrup. A teaspoon of that to start with, mixed in his food would also help.

Subject: [FH] Well, with the assisted feeding, at 25mls of food, he looked better than when I
gave him the last 10 mls. He jumped down off the bed and went and laid by the water bowl. (we missed him so we couldn't see how we walked) I put a few drips of water on his lips and put him in his bed. All in all, in the last 5 hours, I got 35mls of blended food into him. I think I will quit for tonight or maybe set me alarm for a few hours from now and give him a chance to get rid of some of that. he hasnt urintated or pooped since ive been home, so maybe thats why. Gosh, I was surprised how well he took the syringe feeding and I was also surprised at how many ml's it takes to get to a can and a half, ugh
Lets hope this bit of food into him, gets his appetite going and tomorrow is a better day. One step foreward and 3 steps back. No pain meds for him tomorrow...he needs to fully come around for us now.
