      Hi

I agree with everyone else. You need the cardiac ultrasound done to check
for HCM. There's is a 50% chance of the sibling having HCM inherited. With
such an early onset it's possible she inherited two copies of the genes
which is what I believe happened to my Trixi who was diagnosed at 12 weeks old.

HCM can be controlled and even stabilised with drug treatment. Trixi was
given a few months to live and will be 6 years next August. She takes quite a
cocktail but it keeps her stable and her ultrasounds show only slow
progression. Heart failure is always an emergency and needs immediate treatment,
often hospitalised in a specialist care centre under a cardiologist.
Unfortunately your little girl presented with heart failure as he first symptom
which is often the case. I am so sorry for your loss.

If your other cats are diagnosed, take heart. You can help them and there
are treatments. There's no cure for inherited HCM but cats can live long and
even full lives if caught early.

      Lyn
