Re: [FH] Gallop Rhythm_Sidney
- Hi Dick
A gallop sound (it's not technically a rhythm) can be benign but it is more often an indicator of an enlarged heart. Part of the heart can become enlarged from HCM, the most common heart disease of felines, but RCM and DCM can also cause heart enlargement.
What you need is an echocardiogram to look at the heart, preferably done by a board certified cardiologist. An echo gives you more definite info than an ECG/EKG. You may also want to do chest x-rays if you think your cat is having any trouble that could be heart related i.e. shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, behavioral changes, etc.
