Years ago, I had a regular vet tell me my late cat Stanley couldn't have a heart problem because he didn't have a murmur. He didn't have much to say when my cat died a few days later with massive heart failure. So I know the pain of not seeing a specialist!

I will say, though, there are exceptions to the radiology rule: if you can have a cardiologist do the echo, that is the first choice, radiologist is second. For the abdomen, many internal medicine specialists receive extensive training in abdominal ultrasound so I'd use an experienced internal med specialist or a radiologist for the abdomen.

      Just my $0.02.
