      An excellent source for serious veterinary articles is ivis (www.ivis.org). You have to set up an account, but it's free. There's a good search feature. Several articles about metabolic alkalosis.

        I would also suggest your friend register on this forum and ask the owner Traci for help. Traci is extremely knowledgeable and very much goes by the book. She has helped me countless times figure out puzzling symptoms and struggle through diagnosis and interpretation of clinic notes etc. She is not a vet, but she works in a high-end emergency vet clinic and has pretty much seen it all-
