          Hi, Gene.
How is Blackie today? I hope he is resting comfortably in his usual spots, and not hiding away in some unusual dark place today.

I want to give you a peace of advice, I hope you won't mind.
Blackie's heart condition will be taking you along a path with various bump, twists, and turns that will be fraught with questions for you if his health issues are anything at all like all the heart cats in this group. Since this vet team you are *trying* to work with at the start of Blackie's diagnosis are behaving in the way you explained..."all a pain in the ass to get hold of" I strongly urge you to please move on. You absolutely must find a team that includes a cardio specialist who will be accessible to you. You should not have to fight to get through to these people. It's hard enough to try to keep our heart cats going with excellent vets who give of themselves and are available to us!
Heart issues with cats cannot be managed second or third hand with any success, please believe me. Find yourself vets you can work with and trust.
Where are you located? Perhaps there are members in our group who can give you a referral. But please don't stay with a group of vets who are not available to you...Blackie's life depends on a cardio team that is committed to his well-being 24/7 not when they happen to be willing to discuss/or get around to discussing his condition with you.

You got me interested when you mentioned that your vet was world renowned. I googled his name and found his website. I was interested in all the services he offers. It's too bad he's not board certified. I always feel a bit more secure with vets that are. But something in particular struck me when going through his links on the site...I must admit I have *never* heard of a vet until now who required a "legal release" from the clients who are bringing in their animals as patients. Pretty odd. Don't you think? Why would a vet require that?

Hi, Gene. Actually I bring my animals to a vet who follows the same...holistic, alternative...including Chinese medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, as well as traditional methods, but she does not require such a release in order to treat animals. I think it's very odd. Marty Goldstein, the vet he mentions that he admires, follows? it wasn't quite clear, practiced full time in NY state, and while he doesn't practice there now, his brother does. I have friends who still go to that practice, they are not required to sign a legal release. And while Marty was practicing full time to the best of my knowledge Marty didn't. Honestly I was stunned.

If one has to sign a release for alternative treatments, that probably means that these type of treatments or regimes are NOT followed by the AAHA. Most holistic treatments whether for humans or animals need to have some type of medical studies done to be assured that there is NO bad outcome to the patient.

Gene If I were you I would definately get a second opinion, which will probably not cost as much as this vet is charging you for some insane treatment that is obviously paying for the license plates on his car. Heart treatments need to be regulated no matter what species the patient is.

                            Oh, folks,

We're not here to debate about allopathic versus holistic modes of treatment. That discussion is endless and doesn't help anyone. How any of us decides to choose which or how many kinds of treatments we do is each individual's right and decision. Whether there are studies or not, we're all here just to share experiences and information, and what each of us does with that is up to each individual.

Also, insulting a doctor for his license plates is uncalled for. Personalized license plates don't cost much. I have them myself and I'm nowhere near wealthy...not even close, as I only just was able to get a part time job after being out of work for a very long time. So please let's not insult either each other or anyone else's doctors. You can voice concern or disagreement with someone or their vets without insulting them. If you have any strong words about your own vets or medical care, feel free to vent it here.

Just for the record, Dr. Mark Newkirk is an allopathic veterinarian who several years ago included holistic modalities to his practice. He is well aware of studies done for heart kitties and keeps up with all the latest research.

So anyway... please let's keep our discussions civil, no more insults please... okay? Okay.

I am NOT complaining about Dr. Newkirk at all he is unreal amazing individual and an equally amazing Vet too.  I have NO problems with him nor will I EVER leave him.  He is a Godsend, this Guy kepy my Cancer Kitty Buddy ALIVE for 3 Months when the original Vet that diagnosed him (Winslow Animal Hospital) said the same day that he is VERY GRIM and it DOESN'T LOOK GOOD.

I mentioned his Lecense plates only to convey the Love for these animals that he has.  He actually put it on his plates to show thats what he loves and that's what he does.

The place I had a problem with and complained about was Mt. Laurel Animal Hospital and ONLY ONE VET there thats all.  Her name is Dr. Bellz whio is a HORRIBLE Person with TERRIBLE and shocking bedside manners.  I also mentioned that I could not get ahold of the Guy who did Blackies Echo because he goes from Vet to Vet doing this by Appt. only.

Blackie is back again under there care of Dr. Newkirk and we have another checkup tomorrow in fact.  The Guy rocks period, there is none better, read about him.

So glad you are pleased. Who is your cardio vet?

And, good luck tomorrow! Look forward to reading what your new cardio has to say. Here's hoping you love this specialist as much as you love your vet.

                                      Hugs to Blackie.
