Mickey goes to the vet again, tomorrow,so I can ask some final questions about atenolol usuage. As I had stated before, the specialist had tested Mickey, with an ultrasound, has a grade 3 murmur, with valve problems,no problems yet with heart rate nor respiration,or blood pressure, but he wants her on atenolol, 6.25 mg twice a day. After researching, etc, I am still hesitant about starting meds this soon.I would have to put the lquid compound in her food, and make sure she eats it,she is a picky eater, hard to open her mouth, etc.I am very concerned more about side effects, right now.If I start it,then I should start lower. If she won't eat,the mixture after a couple of days doing it,don't I have to taper it off??I will have more detail tomorrow, and will write down every detail.I know that some vets disagree about medicating too soon, until the heart rate is over 200 and with more clinical signs.Or perhaps I should try and get another opinion from another specialist. As far as I know,my state only has one certified cardiologist, and that's the one I had.She is a very anxious type kitty, and I am keeping her as stress free as possible.Impossible to pill, does not like treats, and is not the laid back type kitty. She is 8 years old, calico type tortoise shell I guess.Never been sick at all.I also have another Kitty, who is 12,and finally got him on a food that he is not allergic to,he is an ibd cat.But he is easy to medicate with liquid compound.I am especially concerned about side effects of slowing down, not eating-nausea and the effect on kidneys.Won't know until I try the med on her though.I have been tossing the questions around with myself for three weeks now.I don't want to make any mistakes, and then Mickey would get worse with side effects.Any thoughts?I know the disease will progress. I will have more details tomorrow. Thanks again for being there.
