Re: [FH] Nikko - crash - need help asap
- Hi Linda,
I'm terribly sorry to hear precious Nikko is not doing well. The only thing I can offer is to have his potassium checked (if you haven't already) to make sure it's not too low, as this can cause weakness in the hind legs. If you're giving a kitty fluids, this can drain the potassium in his body and you'll need to supplement it. I have also found that even if the potassium is in the low end of normal, this is still too low and requires supplements. There are two types of potassium levels, but only one can be checked in a blood panel. The potassium that is in the muscles cannot be checked, so if the blood panel shows the potassium is low, then it's even lower in the muscle. Another sign of low potassium is if he's drooping his head down when he walks. If this is the cause, and you start supplementing right away, they turn around fairly quickly. HTH.
All the best,

Subject: [FH] Nikko - crash - need help asap
I really need help with Nikko. I just don't know what to do anymore. He has CHF, HCM, Anemia, and now his legs aren't working at all.
Nikko is on his 3rd CHF crash since July. He just got out of ICU last saturday. He was getting 40 ml of fluid twice a day and ended up in CHF.
Now he is getting 20 and 20. So I took in him today because his legs are progressively getting worse and now he can't walk at all. She said part of it is spinal like maybe an inflamation and she is not sure why else. He went from walking around to not to walking in about a day or two.
His previous BUN was > 140 and now it's > 180. Before that it was in the 120's. Creatinine was 4.7 and now is 7.6. The highest ever. Anemia is betterup from 20 to 23.
He is on a whole slue of meds and I just don't know what to do. Can Nikko come out of this or is this the end?
Nikko was diagnosed with HCM in 2006 with no symptoms. The renal failure about a year ago. I also syringe feed him.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I don't want to lose him.
His mother was Meka who I have posted about before, she was my very special little girl and she died in 2006 of renal failure and fluid overload because she was misdiagnosed. Nikko is her son and the last of all her babies.
To make it worse when I picked Nikko up from the hospital and brought him home I found my cat Figgy dead. He was only 9 and was healthy. It was such a shock and I miss him so much and now Nikko is getting worse.
I just really need some advise as you guys are so knowledgeable.
I will list his meds later if needed but he is on 1/4 tablet of lasix twice daily along with the fluids which will now be 30 and 30. He is also on meds for anemia.
I would appreciate anyones help for my boy. I also.am cross posting to CRF
Linda and Nikko, missing Meka
