      hello everyone

Rigsby came home from intensive care on monday night.
he had an echo done and the news is very bad. he has an enlarged heart with both chambers failing to work properly. he has fluid on his lungs and around his heart.
his kidney values are declining but not rapidly though today he looked very dehydrated, so much so it is difficult to inject him with insulin.
      his values are

      12/12/09
      creatinine 349
      urea 27.8
      fructosamine 358
      everything else within normal limits

      19/12/09
      creatinine 370
      urea 32
      i don't know about glucose

today 23/12/09 but using different labs where the numbers are usually higher
      creatinine 442
      urea 31
      glucose 14.9

My vet thinks we should stop giving him frusemide (diuretic) but the specialist says he has not had enough to clear the fluid from his lung yet. she says if we stop he could go into respitory distress.
      his current meds are
      frusemide 0.6mls twice daily
benzapril (quarter of a tablet daily - very low dose apparently)
and an anticoagulant clopidrogel (quarter tablet every two days).

i am so so confused about what to do. my vet says wait and see - he's not at the end yet. the specialist still says we should consider euthansia very soon, if not now.
yesterday rigsby rushed off and leapt over a fence - disappeared for an hour and a half in the snow - I was terrified he had gone away to die. after I have checked everyone's gardens and sheds I started to leave the area to inform all vets not to do anything to him if he was brought to them when he turned up at the front door.
his leg, where he has the clot is now warm and he is recovering a bit more movement in it. my vet thinks he can get more use back....but whether he will live long enough is a worry.
if anyone can advise please do get in touch.
      best wishes
      Ruth
