Re: [FH] Carmen's small miracle
- I am so happy that Carmen has improved. You were so smart to give her the coconut water -- this makes me want to pick some up for my kitty! I will continue to send positive thoughts your way. Carmen is very lucky to have such a diligent mom!

Subject: [FH] Carmen's small miracle
I have some good news to report regarding Carmen. We just got back from the cardiologist for her one week checkup after diagnosing severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. I know that many on the board gave their support and said this problem can be corrected fairly easily but her vets were not particularly optimistic as shes been a tough case with 4 medicine adjustments, two episodes of heart failure in the last month and she lives day to day with about 20% fluid on her lungs even with the very aggressive regimen.
Friday night I started giving her coconut water as she wouldn't touch Pedialyte, to help her electrolytes and it really seemed to perk her up. Today we got the great news that her electrolytes are perfect once again, her kidneys are still in excellent shape, and best of all her heart size has reduced slightly! This I would have never expected. It was less than a week ago the vets were saying how disappointed they were that nothing seemed to be working for her.
I know the situation is still so delicate and can turn on a dime..she still is experiencing some muscle twitching from the dehydration, but this is a great way to end my weekend. I am grateful to the incredible kindness and excellent care of her cardiologist, who e mailed me every day this past week asking for updates on how she was doing. The entire staff at the Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in NYC are wonderfully attentive, kind and caring.
I want to thank everyone who sent encouragement, good thoughts and prayers our way this week, as I am sure those had a major role to play in her progress. Please hug all your kitties for me and I will also keep them in my prayers.
