I am so sorry for the loss of your dear April. Cats can be masters of disguise about their symptoms, so don't be so hard on yourself. Does April have any brothers/sisters? Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

April leaped off the perch and landed kind of hard on the marble tile by the rub. She then looked at her leg, apparently realizing something was wrong. After a few minutes we both heard a cry - but discounted it since we thought she was fearful of her nemisis Beanie. I looked at her sitting down by her food bowl not touching the food. Thinking she was planning to eat later I drove my wife to work. When I got home I heard another cry and after checking the email, went downstairs. I found April laying on her side, her head in a kitty tower. My first reaction was she slipped and hurt her leg. I called the emergency vet and was instructed to put her on a towel. When I got back to the bedroom, she crawled under the bed and I had to pull her out.

Sadly after reading about HCM I now realize there were subtle signs that we should have picked up - her coughing, sleeping and a change in personality. I wish I would have known about the disease sooner. If your cat has HCM I know how you feel.
