Since they are sisters, we took them both to do a heart scan and the vet found HCM in both of them, even though our second cat Tasha shows no signs and hopefully never will. Both cases are light and were diagnosed early and the vet (cat's heart disease specialist for the past 20 years) told us that they both have a good chance to live normal lives and die from old age. However, he also told me that since Lily must take diuretic drugs (fusid) it might eventually destroy her kidneys and I should try to lower the dosage from half a pill a day to the minimum dosage that will not make her lungs fill with water again. I monitor her breathing daily and I noticed that with 3.125mg of fusid per day her breath calmed from ~45 per minute to 20-25 per minute and then I lowered the dosage to 3.125mg every other day. Unfortunately she started breathing fast again and she is now back on 3.125mg a day. I'm not sure I will be able to lower her dosage but I will try to lower it to three days with pill one day without and if its good I'll move to two days with pill one day without.
