She is waiting to be seen by a cardiologist but could be 2 to 3 weeks
before she can get to the specialist. The vet gave her Benazapril (
      sp ) 2.5 mg a day and a omega 3 supplement. I am wondering what else I
can do to slow the progression of this disease. Any information would
be greatly appreciated. The vet was somewhat unhelpful and too focused
on telling me she is going to die than offering any advice other than
      the gardia specialist. Thanks

        Hello,

Welcome to you and your kitty! Please let us know your names when you get a chance. If you already did, sorry, I am just getting caught up on the weekend's emails. I am sorry to hear about your kitty's condition but glad that you found us. I know Sue already gave you some information so I just wanted to say hello.

Did your vet schedule the cardiology appointment? Sometimes if the vet calls, you get in sooner. But then again, if your kitty is stable and not in congestive heart failure, they may make you wait anyways. I am sorry that your vet discouraged you about the diagnosis. Not all kitties die immediately with heart problems. There are a lot of kitties in this group that have been with us for years and have had long full lives with heart disease. But our vets never seem to tell us about the success stories. Don't give up hope! Like Sue told you, there are supplements that you can give that really do help our kitties like CoQ10. Most vets say the supplements won't hurt but won't help either. We disagree. If you want some more info on supplements, just email me.

Be sure to ask any questions that you may have even if it isn't heart related because it often is. We are glad you joined.

Leah and her cats and Angel Alec
