HCM Screening Clinic - National Maine Coon Cat Club Show Friday May 5 and
Saturday, May 6 in Mesquite, TX at the Resistol Rodeo Arena----
HCM Screening will be provided at the Resistol Arena Show Hall in
conjunction with the
National Maine Coon Cat Club Cat Show Friday, May 5, by appointment only
and all day
Saturday by appointment only. Scanning will be done by Jack Johnston,
RDMS, RDCS, RVT, RT.

The deadline to sign up for the screening is Wednesday, May 3. Please send
Christie an e-mail with the number of cats you want screened, their
names,sex, age and breed. For the form you fill out at the show, you will
the cats' registered names, registration numbers, and their parents' names
parents' registration numbers. You also need the name and mailing address
of your veterinarian.
Scanning is done by a registered Cardiac Sonographer with video clips of
heart and/or kidneys with measurements provided to a
cardiologist/internist/radiologist off-site for review. Reports will be
mailed to your vet. HCMs will be
read by boarded cardiologist and PKDs will be read by boarded internist or
Jack Johnston, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, RT, is registered through the American
Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with specialties in
abdominal, Obstetric, Gynecology, and Vascular. He has 25 years experience
human ultrasound and 5 years experience in veterinary ultrasound. Currently
Jack is the Mobile Imaging Manager for Sound Technologies overseeing mobile
operations in the US and Canada. He has had extensive training in
ultrasound and performs over a thousand studies a year.
Dr. Jean Betkowski, DVM, Dip ACVIM, (who reads the HCM scans)
received her DVM degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
After completing a Small Animal internship at the Animal Medical Center
in New York, she worked in private practice in a small animal hospital in
Connecticut for two years. Dr. Betkowski then went on to
complete a residency in cardiology at Tufts University. She is a Diplomat
the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with a special
in Cardiology. Dr. Betkowski has been an Assistant Clinical Professor at
Tufts University since 1999.
Color Doppler and Spectral Doppler are utlilized during the screening and
video clips and still images are forwarded to the specialist for
interpretation. The cardiologist is not present during scan The cost of the
