Sounds like you have been through a lot yourself...I saw my grandfather
when he got impacted (in the hospital, no less), and it was a very
difficult situation, to put it mildly.
I also didn't realize you had a Monkie! How did I miss that? Well, my
Monkey says to tell your Monkie that she doesn't understand what all
the fuss is all about, she is just fine! Monkey is quite an amazing
kitty, just laying around purring like always. If I hadn't happened
upon some tinted urine, I wouldn't know anything was up.
To answer your question, my vet is not a specialist, but she is well-
trained in the ultrasound machine and she consults with specialists. I
think if Monkey has to go under anesthesia, it would be a good idea to
consult with a specialist about it. There's no one too close. The
ones I know of are NC State at Raleigh (about 4 hours away) and UT at
KNoxville, about 2.5 hours away. But I think NC State are the ones my
vet is connected with. I'd go if we had to, but maybe my vet can send
records and consult??? One time where I work, we received some
records from another vet that had send a cat for a consult for just the
reason you are suggesting....to find out whether and which type of
anesthesia would be appropriate for a particular heart kitty.
Thanks for writing....Meredith with Monkey
