My first thought would be to get a second opinion. Do you have any specialists in your area? You can search for them here -

Hi.I have a persian who was just diagnosed with a level 2-3 heart
murmur. The vet has gave me no hope that he will get better even
taking his meds. If anyone can give me some comfort in knowing he can
still make it please let me know. would really like to hear of
someone else who has a persian with the same condition. thanks

Heart murmers in kittens can sometimes go away on their own but an HCM
diagnosis has no cure, the cat can live a fairly prolonged life on certain
medications to slow the progression down such as duiretics and heart meds like
        Atenalol.
I would suggest you get your beloved cat to a board certified cardiologist
who can work in conjunction with your vet because most DMV's dont have adequate
training to care for heart patients

        regards Cindy
