Nutritional supplements are just that: supplements to a whole, healthy,
species-appropriate diet...to be used when the cat has a particular deficiency
and/or may require a particular nutrient not available in sufficient quantity in
the diet. But the foundation of nutrition is the diet itself, as no supplement
can compensate for the lack of nutrients in poor-quality (quality in the
nutritional sense) food.
What does the cat currently eat (brand, flavor, canned or dry)?
<< does anyone have any information
about that >>
There is a great deal of information about nutritional supplements and
nutraceuticals...but their use, again, depends on the needs of the individual cat.
<< diet in general? >>
Despite vigorous industry marketing to the contrary, all cats, with almost no
exceptions, require the same diet: a high-quality (quality in the nutritional
sense), low-carbohydrate, well-balanced, moisture-rich, meat-based diet. Some
sites with mostly reliable information on that incl:

You do? Why does he need a low-sodium diet?
<< but beyond that what else can I do for him? >>
That depends on his individual needs. // Rosemary
