Booker is gone and I can't stop this saddness (LONG)
- Our beloved 8 year old Polydactyl Black cat Booker died this morning
at 11:30 am 4/30/04
He had been losing hair and bin lethargic for about a month. Connie
(my wife) took him to the vet a month ago and he said that they
would run every test. A week later they said all the tests were
So life went on but Booker was just not acting right. He slept a lot
and was just not acting like himself. He was in no way giving off
signs that he was about to die. Today we were going to take him to
another vet to get a second opinion.
I heard Connie yelling James James !!! So I ran downstairs to see my
beloved Booker lying on the floor in a pool of urine with his mouth
open and his tong sticking out. He seemed to be having slow
convulsions. His eye's were glossy and not focused.
I will NEVER forget the 3 minutes I spent with him. He started to
meow and only breath in VERY short fast gasps every 8 seconds or so.
His whole body was limp and only his neck was moving slowly. It was
It was sooooo horrible to see something you love so much in distress
and not be able to help or take away the pain! I can't get the image
and motions to stop playing in my brain!
We rushed him to the vet but his little heart stopped beating in the
car. I love Booker so much I don't know how I will function without
him. I can't stop crying.
I was and am SOOO mad at the F$#ing vet. We took Booker in a MONTH
ago and he NEVER ran a full Cem panel on him! He told us he ran ALL
the tests. I just assumed a glucose test was part of that. He didn't
check his blood sugar even though Hair loss was a symptom. The last
few days of his life he was drinking sooo much water.
We took him to another Vet to get an autopsy. He said that his hear
looked enlarged on the left side. He thinks Booker had "Restrictive
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy" We will know for sure on Monday or
BUT....he then told me his blood sugar level was 540!!
I am sooo anxious and depressed and feel as if this whole thing
might have been avoided if that VET had done more tests. At least he
could have told us that IF Booker wasn't doing well that we should
take him in for more tests. We were under the impression that "ALL"
the tests were already done and came back normal. He didn't even
listen to his HEART or take a urine sample.
I feel like a idiot!!!
I'm sooo sad and I have to wait until next week to find out if he
did indeed have Restrictive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or not.
Do you think Feline diabetes could have caused him to seize and lose
control of his bodily functions, paralyze him and then stop his
I will post pictures in the photo gallary :(
