- Nov 18, 2013Elise, please join the Feline Diabetes Message Board, http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/. You'll learn so much and find so much support there. It's possible to get a cat into remission on an all-wet-food diet, and many board members have done that. Also, home testing by doing "ear sticks" is very easy once you and the cat get used to it. Hundreds of people (and cats) do this every day. And many vets, including mine, encourage it. Here's a video for you: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=605.
MissyMonday, November 18, 2013 3:38 PMHi Elise,Some cats go into remission on Purina DM diet (canned food). Most owners do not test the blood glucose at home, as it can be difficult not to mention stressful for both you and Max. An alternative is using glucose urine monitoring strips (not as accurate as blood glucose, but does give you an idea of whether the glucose is in the urine). The insulin injections are really quite easy for an owner to give at home.Karen Plasket, DVM
