My vet didn’t tell me to give it an hour before or after food. Then I read posts and asked him and he said I should be doing that. He said that food will affect the bioavailability of the medication. In a Vetmedin pamphlet that I received from another list member it states this:

      How is Vetmedin® given?

Vetmedin® is available as a flavoured tablet or capsule. It should be given to your dog by mouth twice a day, approximately one hour before food, ideally 12 hours apart in the morning and at night. Use the dose that your vet recommends.

Since Vetmedin is used off label for cats, this literature refers to dogs.

Given this information, I now give it two hours after breakfast and one hour before her last meal at night. That’s what works out best here for the 12 hour interval.

My understanding is it could possibly be a slower absorption but not an issue of not receiving the full dose??
