Which I would not have guessed from his band's sound, but I suppose he
thought Eitzel's voice wasn't suited to Tom Mallon's arrangements on
_Engine_. (Speaking of Mallon, he seems to have dropped off the face of
the earth after being involved in half of the good recording projects to
come out of the Bay Area in the late 80s/early 90s. Love the duelling
guitars of Thin White Rope? Mallon recorded them? Chris Isaak's
ultra-moody early records with Jimmy Wilsey? Mallon recordings?
Everything AMC did up to _Everclear_? Obsessive/compulsive Mallon
recordings, stripping away most of the band's live arrangements. Sundry
