Billy Bragg Storms North America, UK

      David Nadelle reports:
The guilty pleasure of hearing our idols shout out the customary
"Thank you (local town)!" in person pales in comparison to seeing
Billy Bragg, who can prattle on profoundly and endlessly about
city-centric issues no matter where he's playing. See, Billy Bragg

Never really in fashion but always with full of passion, Bragg can
walk the walk. Soon he will be walking, or busing, around North
America on a brief SXSW-centric tour, supported by Jill Sobule, who we
hear kissed a girl once in the mid-90s. He'll also make an appearance
on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on March 15.

The trek is in celebration of Yep Roc's massive Bragg awareness
campaign, which includes reissues of his back catalog in both box set
and a la carte form. (The box set is available tomorrow, March 7.)

The Bard of Barking will have a busy SXSW, hitting up a soup kitchen,
an art gallery, and a church, in addition to being interviewed and
playing a standard showcase set, all in just two days. Shows those
trendy young 'uns who's boss, don't it?

After the Stateside trek, Bragg will take almost a month off before
embarking on the anti-fascist Hope Not Hate UK tour, alongside
ex-Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan and Mercury Prize nominee Seth
Lakemen. Since Billy Bragg without politics is like the Ying Yang
Twins without sex, the tour is sponsored by the Amicus, GMB, RMT and
Unison unions and from the Left Field, Love Music Hate Racism,
Searchlight, and Unite Against Fascism campaigns. So if you're a
fascist, stay home and boss your little brother around.
