There is a nice presentation about Pair Programming on Slideshare.net at
      http://www.slideshare.net/Siddhi/intro-to-pair-programming

The 5th or 6th slide says "Isnt it a waste?" and notes some basic
objections about having two people do the work of one.

The next 4 slides after that are nothing but images of people in
professions where pairing activities are "common". (The complete lack
of words to go along with the pictures is very powerful.)

Similarly, my friend, who has an autistic son and was one time diagnosed
with aspergers, was told by his high school counselor:

"You can be either a garbage man or a computer programmer."

        He chose the latter.
