Fareed Zacaria gave a world assessment that put a new spin on this endless gridlock. He thinks the election may not settle much because the people are truly divided . In the northern hemisphere our small and non aggressive generations argue against cuts in the soft socialism that does not produce enough to support itself. They are not warring, a few of the young are demonstrating but the northern world is principally at peace and has enough food and fuel to live in relative comfort. The south eastern world is vastly overpopulated but the warfare is at an ebb and a slow redistribution of wealth and population reductions can reduce the trend toward war and revolution. In the next ten years Japan is expected to lose one quarter of its population. Their population is very old and the japanese xenophobia is blocking immigration of other southeast asians. They will not be able to support their present industries without sizable immigration.
The rise of big machine farming and in biologic progress with seeds and methods can stave off massive famine and wars.
Fareed pointed out that most of the world is at peace and that makes a great deal possible. The global economy is a reality and trade and transportation are bringing the third world on line and in line with modern civilisation. It is as good as it has been since the industrial revolution and perhaps we need not get along to survive with some ease and comfort. Modern people reject religions and move toward secular order. This may take centuries but for the first time in a long time we may have time. Bill
