Dr. Phil, welcome. Your premise is quite temporal and sounds like you have read your Obama. We had a contributor who thought Hegel is the answer. Pulling him into a modern escampment seems a long stretch. I recently read there is not enough to be gained by putting it to the ultra rich but who knows the real numbers? The wizard of Omaha is not the kind of capitalist that causes hate as he is a slouchy old man who lives a quiet life.
I think it was "Spirit' that said"Tax the rich feed the poor till there are no rich no more". I cannot see that as an end , a solution.
Now Mr, Microsoft could rile up a socialist mob as could Steve Jobs. Sure they have given billions but their averice and wild pride sets upon them like stink on shit.
Why would one continue to work if all proceeds are just wisked away? Do you call for some unrequited paternalism? Is innovation hard work? It may be no more than accident unless you go about it like Edison and just try everything that might work.
Under what authority might you reduce the rich to average? Remember JFK and what he ended up with.
I do not think capitalism is some kind of magic that causes innovation. For innovation on the grand scale major cooperatives are needed. The grandist innovator cannot build a Hoover Dam.
We need the corporations but need to control them.
So tax tax and tax again without population control will just birth more idiot mouths to feed.
I do not think any solution will come from theory as the progress itself must lead the way. For example, fracking may result in progress with energy with little environmental damage. That could cut the ultra rich oli shieks down and allow a more fluid economy without paying those worthless crazies. Wind is working here where I live and natural gas shows great promise, look to the Gorgon project by Chevron. Revolution and destruction are the most retrograde of answers. That is the lesson of Marx. Hegel, well tell me more. WRH
