Yes, I saw the article. The way it sourts out is almost as if the
northern US should join Canada in a peace loving, democratic
socialist state. The people would be liberal, a religous,
progressive and socially conscious. The southern Us would become a
      pure capitalist, neoconservative, socialconservative, right
wing, christian thocracy. It will never happen but probably would be
      a better fit.
I have this mad theory:Cold weather causes man to band togeather for
survival. In southern climes man can exist as a singularity because
he does not need the great machinery of heat production. Southern man
has more time on his hands to hallucinate his gods and to imagine the
rules of those gods. Up north we stay busy staying alive. The great
religions originate out of the middle east. An idle mind and hands
are gods seedbed. Religous nuts are frowned upon up north, they are
seen as impractical lay abouts. Socialism expects from each according
to his ability. Sitting about praising the lord does little to fill
      the common larder.
We are in for a real shootout down here. You guys seem more like the
galciers, you spread your life style and politics during ice ages.

        Bill,

You may have a point there. I always have to think about
what I am doing, in relation to the coming winter. In the
south you can leave things lying around. Up north, you have
to pick it up and put it in its proper place. Otherwise it
will get chewed up by the snowblower.

northern girl myself, although my daddy was good-for-nothing family

moonshine and profitable for little else except coal mining.

I am not a fan of the hard-assed cold climate folks. They all look at
you like it's your fault they're alive and have to work so damn hard.
Don't kid yourself, the bible belt runs this far north too. They're
really mad at god, but will take it out on anyone who lets them. Jo

I tend to agree with Bill as to the "south" is more inclined
towards the excesses of religion. In the north, reality of
survival is closer to everyday life.
