      humanism

      will the mind
never come to peace with the heart
      will the world
never cease to toy with the man
      from hard times
the verse like the lightening leaping
      of old words
the dreams of a sweet cool dying
a living libretto gives up hope
having no music to play his heart
lost to a chorus of numb complaining
to have to sing tears for verses
      is to rage

      will the hate
ever burn in the seed of this time
      will the ache
ever fade in the ink of this rhyme
      somewhere cold
the wind screams like a newborn strangling
      no more bold
love falls like an eagle wretching
an aging delusion hobbles for home
having no reason to go anywhere else
      youth is a beauty unappreciated
to have lost sight of compassion
      is to be damned

      will the thought
of great men ever give us new birth
      will the life
of great thought ever hold back the earth
      quickly spent
to the dust we return like slaves
      finite dreams
      fertilize flowers on our graves
      hopeless contractions missing key letters
having unfinished incomplete names and times
claiming vain dreams of self destiny
to have lived and died for posterity
      is ignorance

      to come from nowhere
      to go to nothing
      leaving everything
      to nobodies
      who will do the same
      is futility
