Situational ethics allows for great versitility in response but
lack of static moral base can make the existentialist less prone to
attempt untried strategies. We are natural counter punchers,
defensive specialists but offense in both intellectual and emotional
matters leaves us alone with no situation to assess. When we become
the situation we are most uncomfortable and this leads to a kind of
conservatism that abhors initial risk. With god on their side the
traditional moralists could risk more. Certainly many of them went
down in flames when jesus proved to be no more than a phantom in
support. Yet they are more prone to make that initial move because
they feel covered in faith. If the believer has followed the
strictures of their particular system ,failure in this life can be
supplanted with serendipidy in the after life. That is a confidence
builder we do not share. I seldom think of rock ribbed
existentialists. We can appear vascillating with Hamlet as our
example. Were we to become numerous we could become a great
baseless middle class. Such a group would not risk leadership but
would be effective enough to avoid poverty. Bolder men, fearless
risk takers could easily dominate such a mass . We could easily
become the followers of the future. Bill

We are certainly diverse in our reactions, because we're individuals. I don't think economies alone would lead us to become sheep, although when it comes to mammon, we all have our practicalities. Risk FOR the future, now there's an idea.
