      but as a student of tradition, i don't see how you understand tradition,
      which in itself is neither good nor bad, but the way individuals interact
      with other individuals. individuals are linked in groups/societies.
      they have multiple identities and belong to multiple groups. the relevant
      question is only how much freedom they have to join or leave a group.

      atomized individuals are helpless against purposeful, organized action of
      a few war lords and their mafia-structured support system that controls
      "the masses" through terror and deception. Pol Pot with his ends justifies
      the means and people are expendable philosophy tried to erase a
      civilization that had evolved in Kampuchea for a long time.

      societies are self-organized evolving open systems with checks and
      balances. they interact with other social systems in a distributed
      structure to continue developing. imperial tightly centralized systems
      don't allow for alternative development.
