- Jul 15, 2002As many of you know, Baz has a new Baz-ified version of La Boheme for
that he is bringing to the Broadway stage.
Baz will open the show in New York in December, but not before
debuting it in one American city beginning this October--that's right-
-San Francisco, BAYBEE!
According to today's article in the San Francisco Chronicle, Baz
chose San Francisco, because (the city) is "used to embracing new
ideas". Luhrmann will be in SF for the entire six-week run, and
plans to watch each performance from the audience! (He is here now
for rehearsals.)He fell in love with the area when he was in Post-
production for "Romeo+Juliet" at "George's place" (aka, Skywalker
Ranch, home to George Lucas and ILM)
Baz' version aroused much controversy when it first opened in Sydney,
because--well, he did it his way (Baz' version takes place in the
1950's, not the 1850's).
Baz has been interested in bringing his version of Boheme to America
for quite some time, but was distracted by a few small side
projects; "Strictly Ballroom", "Romeo+Juliet" & a little pic
called "Moulin Rouge!"
"La Boheme" will begin it's run in the City by the Bay on October 1,
and will run to November 10. It will then move to Broadway.
