      Dear Friends,
I have received a message from papyrus-news-admin@... maintained by Mark Warschauer. It really shocked me to learn that Mark has just lost his nearly one-year-old son. The message does not look like a hoax. I paste the message as I think many would like to express their sympathy if they have not heard the news.
      I am so sorry.
      Damian.

MARK'S MESSAGE FROM PAPYRUS-NEWS. I WISH IT WERE A HOAX! WERE IT A HOAX, I WOULD NOT BE EMBARRASSED AT ALL FOR POSTING IT ON OUR LIST.

      Dearest friends and colleagues,

This is the hardest message I have ever written. Some of you already
know what I am going to say, others of you should sit down and
prepare yourself for the most terrible news.

Our beloved son, Michael Kai Warschauer, is gone. Mikey was born on
October 2, 2002 and died on August 8, 2003. His death was due to a
tragic accident for which I am responsible.

My beloved wife, Keiko, and I are at the lowest moment of our lives.
Every hour, every minute, contains an eternity of pain. Our joyful
lives as we knew them before are over.

Keiko and I are strongly committed to working through this together.
We are beginning a lifetime process of healing, mourning, soul
searching, and taking care of one another, and, on my part, asking
forgiveness from God. Keiko and I breathe as one person in these
difficult times. She is my life saver.

We have many different communities, and the support from each of them
will be crucial to our making it through these dark days. Those of
you reading this constitute one of my important communities. I beg
for your understanding and love. A number of you have already
contacted me to offer your consolations and prayers, and I am deeply
      appreciative.

A memorial fund will be set up for Mikey soon, and when it is set up,
I will announce it here. In the meantime, we welcome visitors to
      Mikey's Website, at http://members.cox.net/michaelkai

Please remember, do not reply to this message directly as I cannot
read messages addressed to Papyrus News. Keiko and I can be
contacted via email at markw@... or via my university address
      below.

I don't know the future of Papyrus News, but I'm sure you understand
that you won't be hearing much from me in the coming months. Also
please forgive me if I am unable to reply to individual messages.

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

      in love and sadness,
      Mark and Keiko
