While I am frequently shocked at the ignorance of the great majority
of Americans when it comes to their knowledge of geography -- how
many can name all the provinces of Canada? how many could point out
where each of them lies? -- not to mention countries in Africa,
central Asia, South America -- Lilly's "performance" /might/ be more
a result of the cognition of children around ages two-five.

How well that cognition works is best displayed by playing a very
simple card game with any child from about 4 to eight years old.
Take a deck of cards and spread all the cards face down. Each player
gets to turn one card over and then find a match..... threes with
threes, jacks with jacks, aces, with aces. Players can continue
picking cards until they "fail". When all cards are "picked", the
winner will have the most pairs. (Most of the time, my young kids
would beat the pants off me.)

My mother was a specialist in child development. She tried to explain
to me that at those ages children form a "picture" in their brain --
more or less a photographic memory. Later in the aging process, the
brain learns to connect different kinds of dots.

I am not sure it wouldn't be fairly easy for parents to train Lilly
to select countries --- which may last a lifetime, and be
wonderful....or may be "lost"....and still useful -- and equally
wonderful -- for a ton of good reasons.

In any event, the parents should be congratulated, also for a good
many reasons -- not least of which is the love it shows, the
technology accomplishments, the archive -- what will Lilly think of
this film when she views it 20? 40? 60? years from now?
