I usually don’t respond to these posts, but personal attacks at times deserve a response. Perhaps I missed some previous post. So I’ll briefly address the nasty post by Jean-Francois Turmel. David Buss took some ideas from individuals in disciplines outside of and within his field of psychology, melded them with ideas that were fermenting in psychology, and extended these ideas and theories with data he collected (his sex and cross cultural studies and lots and lots of data since then. Nothing speaks louder than data.). Since finishing his Ph.D over 20 years ago he has trained many of the leading people in evolutionary psychology and been a constant source of ideas and theories. He is the most cited scientist in the field of evolutionary psychology—and he is the most cited in psychology text. Thus, this is a scientist who is a founder of the field of evolutionary psychology and continues to make significant contributions. Perhaps we should pay attention to his ideas rather than attacking him as a person. Isn’t someone suppose to filter the post on this site???
- Credible evolutionists are knowing that individuals of populations can evolve toward 1) individuals developing rapidly, reproducing younger, engendering numerous offspring with few parental care toward offspring engendered, with a smaller nervous system engendering a more simplistic behaviour and dying younger, individuals of such populations more competitive and aggressive between each other for resources enabling survival and reproduction because less genetically related considering the numerous offspring engendered by such individuals leading to an increase in population size, evolution toward these occuring generally when resources in environments are more available and more easily available and can evolve also toward 2) individuals developing more slowly, reproducing older, engendering fewer offspring, caring more for the less numerous offspring engendered, with a bigger brain engendering a more complex behaviour and dying older, individuals of such populations being less competitive and aggressive between each other for resources enabling survival and reproduction because more genetically related in populations of these constituted of less individuals, evolution toward these occuring typically when resources are less available in environments and less easily available, the human species evolved toward the latter but it does appear that individuals presenting their selves as evolutionists in psychology are presenting the typical behaviour of humans as those of the firsts, revealing likely their minds of narcissists, psychopaths, histrionics and psychotics, displayed typically by individuals presenting the first developmental phenotype, still engendered by the genotype in individuals of human populations in a lower frequency hopefully, these reproducing too much would lead individuals of human populations to evolve toward individuals displaying more the development of the firsts, looking like chimps and rats.
- taking the works of some individuals vastly published of EP together, the reproductive behaviour of human females appears to be realised dancing naked ovulating in front of males to lead them to fight with one another to couple with her, females coupling for reproduction with the more symmetrical and physically dominant males, without considering paternal investment in the offspring engendered, which is the reproductive behaviour of females of species displaying the fast development and reproduction phenotype with the small brain engendering more simplistic idiotic behaviours, behaviours displayed by females of fly species notably, while it does appear that most human females of populations are reproducing typically by coupling for reproduction to males expressing love in committed relationships willing to care with them for the progeny engendered by reproduction with them by investing resources that they have, by considering also likely, the genotypic quality of the males revealed by symmetry, but apparently less than want to make believe some of these individuals, human females reproducing typically by displaying the long development and reproduction phenotype associated with a bigger brain engendering more complex and intelligent behaviours.
- Jean-Francois,You provide a great description of the local NJ club scene! Very accurate EP account.EdgarOn Feb 17, 2009, at 4:28 PM, Jean-François Turmel wrote:
