Group Description

Philosopher Eric Voegelin, 1901-1985, devoted his long life to studying and teaching subjects that may be fitted under the broad heading of "Philosophy of History." He spent his life making sense of the political disorders of our time and their spiritual roots going back many centuries. His analyses of ideologies, including liberalism, progressivism, scientism, etc., are unequaled. His studies of Plato and Aristotle and the pre-Socratics are profound, as are his studies of Israel and Revelation, Christianity, and gnosticism. Voegelin's collected works appear in some thirty-four volumes, over thirty of which are now in print. Voegelin presupposes the existence of the Divine Ground as the foundation of all worthwhile inquiry. This listserve also accepts and insists upon this presuppostion as the foundation for all discussion here.

This list is unmoderated but the list owner reserves the right to bar from membership those who are spammers, trolls, ranters, the invincibly ignorant, or the obdurate. The best manners are expected at all times. Honest questions from students, questions about publications, and notices about happenings and publications are fine. Disciplined discussion from an informed Voegelinian perspective is the rule. Many members of the listserve are scholars and all are gentlemen or gentlewomen and it is taken for granted that respect will be shown to all who offer their ideas here.
