  • Hi everyone, I've been "out of the loop" for a while for several reasons but I've kept a finger on the market and I have some info to offer which may or may not be helpful. I sold a double struck 5C on a 10c planchet to this person sometime in the last 3 years or so on eBay. I have tried to research their name for the sale but I cannot find it in PayPal. It is a double struck...

  • I can now only read messages if I am signed into yahoo. If I am not signed in and click on a post a little "loading" tab pops up on the top middle of the screen but it doesn't ever load. This new format is terrible. --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, wrote: That is totally bizarre. Perhaps the Yahoo fairy will eventually bless me in the same manner. In a message dated 9/18...

  • It was designed by Frans Karel Hejda and submitted around 1938 in a design competition for the nickel but was rejected. The token is a more recently made private strike. My understanding is that someone bought the original galvanos and used them to make dies that were then used to strike your token, presumably in a limited quantity. --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, "jdr_mcb...

  • I remember the Wisconsin extra leaf and Washington & Adams MEL/Dbl edge lettering "heydays" as having several thousand listings total on eBay at the time. I had to create custom saved search parameters to weed through all of the listings... but 10,000 is a lot! --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, jylitalo wrote: > > Too funny. > > With a distinct difference between an 'error...

  • I have exactly one paper error, a $10 note with the third print of seals and serial #'s on the back. I like the error type because it shows a mistake on both sides, is dramatic, and very affordable. There are many other paper errors I would love to own but they always seem to take a backseat to coins. There is a long-standing coin shop here in my town where the owner is a fan of...

  • Mike, are you going to be actively collecting paper now or just writing articles about them? --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, "Mike Diamond" wrote: > > I've received the go-ahead from my editors at Coin World to expand the purview of Collector's Clearinghouse to include currency errors. I will be boning up on the subject over the summer, since it's an area I haven't spent...

  • I don't think Mike D. intended to be dismissive at all, but I'm with Steve in that I think the poster may have perceived it as dismissive. Mike does have a pretty frank/straightforward delivery. Regulars here are familiar with Mike D. and his way of typing/writing, but perhaps some others aren't. In a larger context I think sometimes people take things a little too seriously when...

  • My condolences to his family. I did a couple of deals with him and he seemed like a really great person, the error hobby has lost too many good people recently. --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, fred_weinberg wrote: > > I'm sad to report that > Nick Brown of Chicago passed > away last night. > > Dave Camire, a very close > friend, emailed the news. > > Nick was our co-author...

  • I gotta say I understand where this guy is coming from. He has a nice looking coin that appears very real to him, and it is certified. Then along comes someone he doesn't know who declares it fake and offers what appears to be a very low ball price. I am in no way surprised by his response. The coin is essentially now "as good as real" because it's slabbed by a well known company...

  • I personally think that it has a great look and certainly is collectible because it's nice and dramatic (and slabbed!), but the price paid by any buyer should reflect the fact that consensus opinion is that it's a fake. --- In errorcoininformationexchange@^$1, "Michael E" wrote: > > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151037009095 > > was very interested and loved...
