      CRUINNIÚ AGÓIDE & EOLAIS

      Cá háit:      Óstán Pillo

      Bóthar Áth Chinn

      Gaillimh

Cathain:     Dé hAoine, 02 Nollaig 2011

      Cén t-am:   2.00 - 4.00in

Cad:              Cruinniú feachtais maidir leis an athbhreithniú ar Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla & cinneadh an Rialtais deireadh a chur le hOifig reachtúil, neamhspleách an Choimisinéara Teanga

      Cainteoirí:    Julian de Spáinn,

      Ard-Rúnaí Chonradh na Gaeilge

      agus

      Éamonn Mac Niallais,

      Urlabhraí Ghuth na Gaeltachta

D'fhógair an Rialtas le déanaí go bhfuil sé i gceist acu Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga a dhúnadh mar oifig reachtúil neamhspleách, agus a chuid feidhmeanna ar fad a chur isteach faoi Oifig an Ombudsman mar chuid dá phlean athchóirithe don earnáil poiblí. Seo in ainneoin nach ndéanfar aon airgead a shábháil agus gur fógraíodh athbhreithniú poiblí díreach mí ó shin maidir le hAcht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla, athbhreithniú a bhfuil ról agus feidhmeanna Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga ag a chroílár. Tá cruinniú feachtais á eagrú ag Conradh na Gaeilge agus Guth na Gaeltachta chun pobal na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta a thabhairt le chéile agus a spreagadh chun gnímh leis an gcinneadh gan ciall seo a throid.

      TUILLEADH EOLAIS:

      ---------------------------------IRISH-LANGUAGE CAMPAIGN MEETING

      Where:       Pillo Hotel

      Headford Road

      Galway

      When:        Friday, 02 December 2011

      What time: 2.00 - 4.00pm

What:           A campaign meeting regarding the review of the Official Languages Act & the Government's decision to close the independent statutory Office of the Language Commissioner, An Coimisinéir Teanga

      Speakers:      Julian de Spáinn,

      General Secretary, Conradh na Gaeilge

      and

      Éamonn Mac Niallais,

      Spokesperson, Guth na Gaeltachta

The Government recently announced that it intends to close the independent statutory Office of the Language Commissioner, An Coimisinéir Teanga, and transfer its functions to the Office of the Ombudsman as part of the public sector reform plan. This is despite the fact that no financial savings will be made, and that a public consultation was announced only a month ago as part of a review of the Official Languages Act, a review which has the role and functions of the Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga at its core. Conradh na Gaeilge and Guth na Gaeltachta are organising a campaign meeting to bring the Irish-language and Gaeltacht community together to protest against this decision, and to agree on a common course of action.
