      Hi All,
I've only just joined this group, I am a member of rootsweb, but it
is full of American genealogy. My Robinson family is from Rotherhite
St, Rotherhithe, London, England. Joshua Robinson was born early
1800s, and married Elizabeth Jones. They came to New Zealand on the
ship Louisa Campbell, and arrived in Auckland, NZ in 1840s.
Joshua is said to be a carpenter in London with his twin brother
Caleb. I would very much appreciate any information on London at this
time or on my Robinson family.
      Thank you,
      Natasha Wells

        Hi Natasha,

I have one ancestor born in Rotherhithe, and some born in Poplar just across
the Thames. Rotherhithe and Poplar are part of the Docks area of London, and
as such carpenters were in high demand in the 1800's. The East India Dock
Company was a major employer at the time, and the naval docks were not far
away either. To get a picture of Rotherhithe as it is today you can look up
Rotherhithe Street at this address http://www.streetmap.co.uk If you want a
picture of the area as it was when your ancestors lived there ordnance
survey maps of London are available at www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk The
ordnance surveys I have purchased are very clear and have been well worth
while. I would also suggest getting in touch with some of the London based
genealogical societies to get more background information on your area.

Hope this has been of some use,
        Lee Beet

              Hi James

I'm afraid I can't help with a link to your Robinson line. I have traced
mine back to 1680 - all in Suffolk, at Thornham Magna. My great grandfather
moved from Thornham Magna to Clapham in Surrey in late 1850s and his son,
Henry Charles Robinson, my grandfather, migrated to Australia in 1890.

I do have some Yorkshire ancestry - Malin, Moore, Everingham, Wilkinson,
Wholey - but no Robinsons there.

              Regards
