4m* 50m stretch is too much, possibility of crack is high due to settlement and other factors .such conceting should be done in panels of 5m* 5m or thereabout

4m* 50m stretch is too much, possibility of crack is high due to settlement and other factors .such conceting should be done in panels of 5m* 5m or thereabout and not in stretches. expansion joints are better created prior to concreting rather than cutting groove at any date, we cut the groove  after three days and curing is another factor. i have had same problem first hand cos i just completed over 40km of concrete pavement road withing a plant and another one is still ongoing. check your concrete slump to be 120-130 as well and vibration during concreting should be checked.

Subject: [engineeringcivil] JOINTS IN CONCRETE FLOORSPPLI

ONE OF MY CLIENT  IS DOING CONCRETE FLOOR OF ABOUT 3 LAKH SFT OF SHADE BY READY MIX CONCRETE SUPPLIED BY ME.

THEY ARE  DOING 4 METERE BY 50 METRE 100 MM THICK TRIMIX FLOOR DAILY WITH RECRON FIBRES AND SAMROCK HARDNER.

EACH STRIP OF 4MX50M IS DONE DAILY ALTERNATIVELY. THAT IS LEAVING ADJACENT STRIP VACANT AND THAT IS FILLED WITH CONCRETE NEXT DAY.

THEY PLAN TO PUT EXPANSION JOINT EVERY 40M X 50M PATCH. AND THEY CUT GROOVE ON  CONCRETE AFTER 14-15 DAYS OF CONCRETING.

IS THIS OK.I FEEL THE PATCH IS TOO BIG AND GROOVE CUT SHOULD BE EARLIER.

YES THE FLOOR CRACKS RANDOMLY WITH A UNIFORM PATTERN ACROSS THE 50M LENGTH. AS THE CRACKS IS NOT UNEVEN OR WITH COB WEB PATTERN  IT IS NOT SHRINKAGE CRACK. SO PLEASE GUIDE WHY THE CRACKS HAVE OCCURED.

DO WE HAVE A GUIDELINE OR SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING COSNT. JOINTS IN CONCRETE FLOOR . IF YES PLEASE SEND ME ANY WRITE UP TO CLARIFY ON ABOVE.

      REGARDS

      SANDEEP MATHUR
