Fw: [America2Point0] Peak Complexity?
- The article provides understanding of the difficulty that society has in coping with the increasing complexity of the operation of civilization. It is a typical anthropocentric discussion of a selected issue using misleading terminology. It focuses on energy and says that food is one form of energy whereas chemical energy is one constituent of food which is made of matter. It discusses the role of 'free' energy when the energy from the Sun can never be used by the technological systems of civilization without the ecological price being paid. Climate change is one instalment owing to Mother Nature that society will have to meet.
The article discusses the impact on the views in society of new technology without taking into account that all technological systems do is irreversibly consume limited natural resources and produce irrrevocable wastes in providing society with temporary goods and services. It discusses the cost of maintainimg complexity without taking into account that this maintenance is an unsustainable process because the real cost is ecological, not economic. It comes to the fallacious conclusion that the real problem is psychological in humans when the real problem is that the technological systems are being subject to the destructive natural laws.
