I am asking how to begin play online with other people, as I have never played that way and don't know where to start.

I play Empire Deluxe Internet Edition (EDIE). Please do not send me turns of the older version of the game.
Playing the AI in empire is a good for learning the game but the AI can easily become obsessed with a city. All you have to do is let it re-conquer a city and then take let it back and that is all the computer is going to want it back and then you take it again and in the mean time you are taking the rest of the cities.
The point of the game is "extreme resource management".
Thus the "Producer Report" combined with the "Drain" will play as much a role if not more of a role than strategy.
Request a game and let it happen.Edward K. Marois
