Re: [Embracing Islam] Iftar (Meal after fasting)
- they have lost their way, !They are mainly the affluents. The poor does it with three dates and water.Followed by a Kanji (broth)(They are Those with Taqwa)Its a question of Iman.abdeen-------Original Message-------Date: 11/01/04 00:45:59Subject: Re: [Embracing Islam] Iftar (Meal after fasting)As salaamu alaikumIndeed the iftar should be simple, yet today we see people turning them into elaborate social affairs, often turning them into competitions to see who can put out the biggest and best spread. My question is, how is this practice keeping in line with Islamic teachings and the ways of Rasoolullah (salallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) who would break his fast with fresh dates and if there were none, dry dates and barring that, with simply a few sips of water. If anything iftars today seem to resemble more of the large feasts that many non-Muslims put forth for Thanksgiving Day. Seems we have some major explaining to do.As salaamu alaikumFa'izah
- As salaamu alaikum.
That explains a lot. It would be best, in my opinion, if the affluent amongst the ummah utilized the money by giving in charity as is their obligation. The amount of money spent on the food to host one iftar providing one meal could better be spent on providing more food to families in need to prepare several meals.
