      ArtintheCity's New Look Website

Some of you have probably noticed the big changes that www.artinthecity.com has undergone recently.  One of the most exciting new features is the new community focus - you can create your own profile on the website, as well as leaving comments on news stories and events, sharing your own experiences with the ArtintheCity community.

In other news, the theme and artists for this year's UAE Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale have now been announced.  Our next edition of the ArtMap, released in May, will have a special Venice Biennale focus so stay posted for this!

It's that time of year again for the Gulf Film Festival, now in its fourth year.  The Festival will bring audiences some of the best films being made in the region and beyond, and will also have a special showcase of legendary filmmaker Gérard Courant.

At Ayyam Gallery in DIFC the exhibition 'Trees and The High Rising City' will continue throughout April, showcasing the abstract paintings of the seminal Palestinian artist Samia Halaby.  We spoke to Halaby about her new work and her approach to abstraction.

In Abu Dhabi 'Splendours of Mesopotamia' is now open, inviting us to contemplate the wonders of Mesopotamia's rich history through over 200 ancient treasures, as well as a series of talks and workshops programmed around the exhibition.

An exciting collaboration also approaches, which will see over 100 musicians and artists from the UAE join to perform. Movement is conceptualised by Dubai-based singer /songwriter Gayathri and there will be an open call for creatives coming up at thejamjar on 13 April 2011.
