      Hamden section
      - Putnam Ave bridge to be delivered in October.
      - Entire trail will be completely paved to New Haven line by December.  Finishing touches, like markers, will be installed by Spring 2009.
      - Currently semi-paved (stones) from southern trail end to below Home Depot, hard-packed dirt to Arch/Morse St. (Burger King), plowed clear below that to New Haven line (soft dirt). You can walk the whole thing now.

      New Haven section
      - Still in bid process for the remaining few blocks between the current trail end and the Hamden line.  Funding is in place for this remaining section. Expected construction and completion in spring 2009.
      - Section from Hillhouse Avenue to Audubon Street Park of the Arts, as well as on road section from there to New Haven Harbor is in design process. No completion date has been given. Funding is secured for the section through Yale University, but I'm not sure about the section beyond that.

If you have a chance, please write to your town representatives and encourage them to complete this linear park (as well as the other greenways in the region, some of which can be viewed at http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/CityPlan/EnvironmentalInitiatives.asp#Greenways ) as soon as possible.

I just happened to take an exploratory ride yesterday on the Hamden section, and I would like to add a couple of details.

The bridges over Putnam and Connolly Parkway need some serious work; October seems optimistic, but if that’s the primary focus, it’s do-able.

The semi-paved portion would be the former access road and parking area to the businesses off Connolly Parkway .  The stretch north of Treadwell that goes through the industrial park is certainly usable, and the rest is dirt.  There’s an especially nice stretch along the lake between Putnam and Treadwell.

It’s going to be so helpful when it’s done…

            Tim
