As limited as the DOT has been in truly thinking/investing in rail over the past few decades, they seem on-point with the idea of TOD around the new NHHS

As limited as the DOT has been in truly thinking/investing in rail over the past few decades, they seem on-point with the idea of TOD around the new NHHS stations.  We committed $5m in bonding this year for communities that host the stations to do the TOD planning/re-zoning/economic development studies around those stations in advance of construction.  Its a decent start - but you would be surprised what passes for TOD in the eyes of some folks :)  .... any public advocacy is good public advocacy on this.

Subject: [Elm City Cycling] New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Rail --- Conference on Economic Development

This conference might be a good opportunity to plug the economic benefits of transit-oriented development.  It would also be a good chance to push for bicycle access aboard the planned NHHS commuter rail, as autos become an ever greater financial burden on households and businesses in our state.
