      Hi all,

Eight years ago, Elm City Cycling first met with Mayor DeStefano, largely to ask him to address the issue of at-fault motorists running cyclists down and not being ticketed but only issued verbal warnings.

In the past two weeks, I've heard of four separate incidents--a walker, 2 cyclists, and a cyclist who was doored.

What will it take to change this?

Write the Mayor and let him know exactly how you feel about this. Write Rob Smuts, Chief Administrative Officer, and let him know that 8 years of vague promises is not enough.

The city has launched three separate "bike ticketing blitzes" in the past 8 years, where they choose a month and issue over 1000 infractions to cyclists.

If anyone here has been hit by an at-fault motorist who was not ticketed, please share it with the group, and with the Mayor, by writing him and Rob Smuts at these addresses:
      Robert Smuts <RSmuts@...>
      Mayor DeStefano <MayorDeStefano@...>

      Call the Mayor at 203-946-8200
Rob Smuts can be reached at 203-946-7900
      Find your Alderman here:
      http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Aldermen/index.asp
and CALL THEM--the email addresses are usually out of date, so please call them.

Please make it a priority in your day Monday to spend 5 minutes calling your alderman and emailing Rob & the Mayor to ask them to reverse their no-ticket policy.

Thank you! Contact me directly if you want to be involved in any future efforts on this.
