      Thanks for the additional biographical detail; as he and Tolkien were rough contemporaries, it's really not surprising that they had met.  Johnston's circle of friends and influences has been described as "great and wide, but not deep" as he seems to have been a bit of a loner, but JRRT's hand shows the well-made quality of Johnstonian influence, especially with regard to Foundational and Half-Uncial.
