County Dept Budget Requests - Public Hearings
Earlier this summer, County Executive Kathleen Falk issued her budget directives to the various county departments and constitutional offices as the first step in the 2007 county budget process. No surprise here, but most county agencies were asked to look for spending cuts ranging from 5-7% in the preparation of its budget requests to the County Executive ’s Office.
Three public hearings will be held soon on these departmental budget requests. On each scheduled night, an overview of the specific budget request topic will be given, followed by public comment opportunities. The hearing and topic schedule is as follows:
Thursday, September 14 at 6:00 pm; Dane County Job Center , 1819 Aberg Avenue – Programs in the Department of Human Services related to public health, adult mental health services, economic assistance and work services, and elderly services and Badger Prairie Health Care Center.
Tuesday, September 19 at 6:00 pm; Dane County Job Center , 1819 Aberg Avenue – Programs in the Department of Human Services related to child welfare, child mental health, juvenile delinquency and prevention, substance abuse services for youth and adults, community-based services for those with physical and developmental disabilities.
Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 pm; City-County Building , Room 201 – All other county departments.
Public input is an important element in the preparation of the County Executive ’s annual budget. This budget is scheduled to be presented and introduced to the Dane County Board on October 1. Additional public hearings on the 2007 county budget, as introduced by the County Executive , will be held later in the fall prior to final County Board action.
I encourage folks to attend any or all of these public hearing opportunities. You can reach me at 222-6429 if you have any questions.
