      The purpose of this symposium is to bring together Native and non-Native
      scholars, elders, and other individuals who are interested honoring the
      life and work of Vine Deloria, Jr. and in discussing and expanding
      knowledge in several areas that Vine was active in. The symposium this
      year will focus on (1) religion and spirituality, (2) traditional
      knowledge and Native science and (3) related environmental issues. The
      symposium itself will be organized as a series of panels that address each
      of these topics. Individual presentations may be formal or informal.
      Abstracts that include a title and brief description are requested only

      International conference organized jointly by the Quebec Inter-University
      Centre for Social Statistics (QICSS, Montréal) and the Institut national
      d'études démographiques (INED, Paris). The main objective of the
      International conference on Social Statistics and Ethnic Diversity: Should
      we count, how should we count and why? Is to establish links between the
      production, analysis, uses and interpretation of social statistics related
      to ethnic diversity. The Conference aims to encourage international
      exchanges in order to document the diversity of situations, namely: the
      experience of countries of immigration (Canada, the United States,
      Australia, etc.); the European experience; the experience of countries of
      the South (Africa, Latin America, Asia, etc.).

      This conference aspires to bring together decision makers, policy
      analysts, community workers, and scholars (including students). Persons
      interested in submitting a paper proposal should send a one-page abstract
      (around 500 words) to the contacts listed above. Presentations can be
      made in French or English. Authors will be notified of acceptance by June
      1, 2007.

      The National Indian Education Association Research Committee invites
      researchers and scholars to submit proposals on issues related to American
      Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian education. Selected proposals
      will be invited to present at the Research Symposium Thursday, October 25
      and Friday, October 26 from 1-4:30pm each day. This symposium will be
      held during the NIEA annual conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, October 25-28.
      We invite you to share your research and scholarly perspective on
      American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian issues. Papers
      presented may be considered for a special edition of the Journal of
      American Indian Education published by the Center for Indian Education at
      Arizona State University.

      Presentations should be research based with supporting qualitative and/or
      quantitative evidence that informs the findings. Proposals focusing on

      National Native American Families Together (NNAFT), a non-profit Parent
      Training and Information Center, will be hosting the Educating Every Child
      Institute (EEC), which will be held April 30 to May 2 in San Diego,
      California. This conference will focus on assisting parents and
      professionals who work with Native children with challenging behaviors. We
      are still accepting proposals for presentations related to Best Practice
      and Research for working with Native American children with a disability,
      specifically a behavioral disability. Presentations will be given on Day
      2 of the conference (May 1). Proposals can be either for one or two
      sessions—sessions are an hour each—and will be chosen to provide EEC
      participants with a variety of innovative techniques and strategies that
      can be used to improve services for children. Presenters must register
      for the conference, but will receive a discount of $100 off the
      registration fee (maximum of three persons discounted per presentation).

      The Exemplary Institute (EI) in the only national training program for
      achieving excellence in Indian schools. The goal of the Institute is to
      develop more exemplary programs in Indian schools. Catching the Dream and
      an Advisory Committee of superintendents and tribal education directors
      sponsor the Exemplary Institute. The chair for 2007 is Dr. Dean Chavers.
      Now in its twelfth year, the EI has trained over 1,000 persons how to
      achieve outstanding results with Native American students. The EI meeting
      is growing rapidly, from 111 in 2001 and 200 in 2006. The estimate for
      the 2007 meeting is over 225 attendants.

      The Institute features a “keynote workshop” style of presentation as well
      as the conventional one-hour and two-hour workshops. Keynote workshops
      allow a national expert to explore an area in depth, to respond to
      questions from the participants, to lead participants in self-exploratory

      STEP UP Engineering Camp is a one week residential summer camp dedicated
      to introducing young women in high school to engineering. Campers are
      immersed in a variety of hands-on engineering activities in a small group
      of 25 young women from across the country. Campers learn from NAU
      engineering faculty, students and professional engineers from a range of
      engineering and science disciplines. The week culminates in a showcase
      of innovative team designs that tackle the week-long design challenge.

      We welcome all young women who will be entering the 10th, 11th or 12th
      grade in fall 2007 and have an interest in math, science or engineering
      (must be a U.S. citizen). We especially encourage young women from
      minority populations and those would be the first in their family to go to

      sponsored by the NHLBI for the purpose of increasing diversity in the
      biomedical research workforce. Junior faculty from Under Represented

      The summer institute is designed to prepare the participants to work at
      the interface of genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, and cardiovascular

      The Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) is looking to hire current

      internships are full time positions over the course of 10 – 12 weeks (400

      investigator in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology to assume
      directorship of a Bioinformatics Group in the Biostatistics Branch,
      Environmental Diseases and Medicine Program, Division of Intramural
      Research. NIEHS is one of the National Institutes of Health. The
      incumbent will develop and direct a strong research group to carry out
      independent and collaborative research in the general area of
      bioinformatics and computational biology, particularly as related to
      biological networks, analysis of high-dimensional data, proteomics,
      comparative and functional genomics, gene expression, and epigenetics.
      This work will provide a bioinformatic infrastructure and innovative data
      mining approaches to advance intramural research aimed at understanding
